Steil Leads Letter Demanding Answers on Iranian Drone Strike at American Military Outpost

November 5, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) led a letter demanding answers from the Biden Administration regarding recent reports that Iran resourced and encouraged a drone attack at an American military outpost. Steil was joined by 16 Members of Congress in sending the letter.

"I remain very concerned that the Biden Administration continues to set the wrong priorities by lifting sanctions and negotiating with the largest state sponsor of terrorism as they continue to attack us and increase their nuclear activities," said Steil. "This administration is weakening our ability to combat the regime, and is increasing already heightened tensions in the Middle East. We must hold Iran accountable, and ensure we are protecting Americans, our troops, and civilians in the region."

In the letter, Members wrote: "We have continued to watch Iran attack U.S. troops and our allies in the Middle East, while increasing its nuclear activities. These threats are ongoing, and your administration continues to weaken our ability to combat the Iranian regime by lifting U.S. sanctions.

As your administration is in ongoing talks with Iran to re-enter the nuclear deal, we are concerned about Iran's involvement in the attack at the al-Tanf base where roughly 200 U.S. troops are located.

During a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, it sends a dangerous message to our friends and adversaries that we continue to lift sanctions and negotiate with the largest state sponsor of terrorism as they attack us."

The letter is signed by Reps. Alex X. Mooney, Ted Budd, Doug LaMalfa, Brian Babin, D.D.S., Lisa McClain, Richard Hudson, Vicky Hartzler, Doug Lamborn, Tracey Mann, Jim Baird, Byron Donalds, Guy Reschenthaler, Markwayne Mullin, and Debbie Lesko
