Steil Announces Nearly $2 Million in Apprenticeship Grants for Wisconsin

RACINE, WISCONSIN—Today, Bryan Steil announced that the Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership was awarded $1,998,251 in federal funding through the Department of Labor's Apprenticeship: Closing the Skills Gap grant program. The Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership has an office in Racine dedicated to serving our Southeast Wisconsin community.

"I hear time and again how employees want the skills for the jobs of the future. Apprenticeships are a great way to help workers gain cutting edge skills. This federal funding will help support workers and bolster our state's public-private partnerships, especially in manufacturing. I continue working with the Administration and our state partners to tackle the skills gap."

The Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership has three offices throughout the state: Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. WRTP is a nonprofit organization helping individuals in our communities obtain employment. Previously, WRTP-BIG STEP partnered with Gateway Technical College to create a road construction preparation program to fill employment opportunities within Wisconsin Department of Transportation's projects.


Steil is the co-chair of the Congressional Middle Class Jobs Caucus and the Congressional Future of Work Caucus. Both caucuses are focused on supporting the workforce, closing the skills gap, and raising wages for families across the country.

From the U.S. Department of Labor: The Apprenticeship: Closing the Skills Gap grant program will support the training of more than 92,000 individuals in new or expanded apprenticeship programs for a range of employers, including small and medium-sized businesses, veterans, military spouses, service members re-entering the civilian workforce, and groups underrepresented in current apprenticeship programs, including women and Americans reentering the workforce from the justice system. The grant program supports apprenticeships that 1) include a paid, work-based learning component and a required educational or instructional component that results in the issuance of an industry-recognized credential and 2) meet appropriate quality assurance standards.
