Steil Presents Distinguished Service Medal to Retired St. Francis K9 Officer Bane
Washington, D.C. (March 8, 2024) - Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) this week presented the Distinguished Service Medal to Retired St. Francis K9 Officer Bane. Bane was the first K9 officer to join St. Francis in 2014 and has responded to hundreds of calls throughout his career with his handler, Detective Holly McManus.

“I was honored to present a beloved member of our St. Francis Police Department with the Distinguished Service Medal,” said Steil. “For six years, Bane served bravely alongside his handler, Detective Holly McManus. On behalf of our community, we thank both Bane and Detective McManus for their dedicated service.”

The medal, awarded by the Animals in War & Peace organization, honors animals for their service both in civilian and military duty. Bane was recognized alongside two other canines at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. this week. Additionally, four canines were presented with the organization's medal of bravery at the event.
